Neighbors Community Center is a multicultural gathering place for connecting, learning, and celebrating.

PROGRAMS

English Classes

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

The main goal of offering English classes is for students to learn to communicate in English and to learn about Lancaster and the culture of the United States. In addition, students will be offered a safe space to engage with other refugees who have had similar experiences as them while also connecting with volunteers and Lancaster locals and finding community here.

Women’s Global Village

Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

Women’s Global Village empowers refugee women newly arriving to Lancaster to sew craft items together, telling their stories with art and colorful fabrics. The women meet weekly to receive art and business training. Through this program, their skills are valued and they receive income for their craftsmanship. For more information, contact Elizabeth Soto.

CORE Tutoring

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 to 5 p.m.

CORE provides quality educational support to immigrant students, by using research-based curriculum in a setting that fosters personal connections. For more information, contact Beth Manyara.

Make Space for Your Story

Second and third Tuesday of every month, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Sarah Racine and Suzanna Hrishka teach an afterschool art class for teen girls who are refugees and immigrants. The creative process has a therapeutic element that brings restoration, healing, confidence, and resilience. Sarah is a trauma-informed art facilitator/teacher who has lived overseas in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Suzanna is a refugee from Ukraine and a graphic designer. For more information, contact Sarah Racine.
